In fact, this version is considered to be one of the rarest of the firecracker effects.

The effect:
The firecracker is lit, then placed in the metal tube and capped.
The tube is handed to the valunteer.
Hilarity ensues (at least it was funny to the mid-20th century crowd!) as the audience is wondering what will happen with the "lit" firecracker.
Finally, when the tube is opened, the firecracker has changed to a silk.
Whew!
The audience and the volunteer are relieved.
Until the volunteer turns around.
The firecracker is attached to his back!
